8 Job Search Hacks that can land you your dream job
Hi
We all get to the point when we need to search for a job. Whether you are just starting your career, or you want to move to another job. It could also be that you lost a job and want to get back into paid employment.
As a Management Consultant that has been in Position to carry out recruitment for projects and organizations, I have come to discover what I call job search hacks that may improve your chances of getting a job. I hope this helps.
1. Be Positive;
Don’t fall into the mental trap that the economy is bad and there are no jobs out there or that you need a connection to get a job. Whatever you expect with strong conviction becomes your self-fulfilling prophecy.
2. Know about yourself;
This is the most primary and very important step when searching for a job. Be it a fresher or an experienced candidate, sometimes people forget to put effort to know about themselves or what to do with their lives and where their strength lies, etc. I can guarantee you that if you get an interview, one of the questions will be “Tell us about yourself”.
3. Passively Apply;
Create job seeker profiles with websites and communities you believe to be most likely to generate job leads for your specific industry and profession. Once the profiles are completed, they become a part of your passive search; meaning, little to no further effort is required for employers to find you. I once recruited someone from OLX now jiji.ng and Nairaland.com. Recruiters and hiring managers who are looking for someone with your skillset may stumble across your profile and attempt to recruit you with minimal effort on your part. Establishing your passive search strategy first allows you to work independently while you actively search and apply.
4: Leverage Your Contacts
Do NOT be afraid to let your friends and family know you are looking for a job. They may have an acquaintance or friend who is looking for someone with your skillset. If you keep quiet about your interest in a new job, they will not know you may be in need of any opportunities they may be aware of.
5; Digitally Socialize:
Just search for jobs by getting into social media and joining groups. If you don’t have an account just create one through LinkedIn or Facebook. Connect to more and relevant people and send your resumes across through your contacts. Need I say that I have hired through LinkedIn too.
6; Never give up:
Keep pushing, don’t take no for an answer and if at first, you don’t succeed, then try again. Upload your profile in every job search site like Monster.com, Career builder, indeed.com, jobberman.com, nairaland.com, etc. Upload your resume and profile everywhere if possible bid your profile to make it appear in the front if possible.
7; Prepare yourself for the interview:
Be prepared with the interview questions and answers. Ask your friend or a relative to conduct mock interviews for you. Know about the company you are going to apply and just be clear and confident about your answers. Treat every interview as a final audition. You have to be at your all-time best.
8; Give interviews and learn from the mistakes.
Every time you attend an interview, do not forget to carry out an assessment of your performance. Ask yourself, what did I get right, didn’t I get right, how can I improve. Make sure you learn something, it really counts & helps in the future.
Please note, you can also Volunteer.
In the meantime, you can choose to volunteer or offer to intern in your organization of choice. Usually many persons get recruited through that means or better still acquire the needed experience which employers are always asking for.
